Week 4 - Devlog



Week 4 - Final Prototype + Research

This week was a big one, by the end of this week we wanted to have a playable demo of our game, to confirm that it is actually a fun concept. As wel as finish all the documents needed to start production, so that is what we did.


Final Prototype

Our developers were hard at work this week, going from only a few prototypes, to a tested / playable game, this was a tough one, but we managed to make it work.

  • Coconut Tree Bombs – The coconut tree was added and spawns bombs.
  • Health System – Players and boats can now take damage.
  • Improved Cannons – Cannons now fire only when holding a bomb (a load function will be added later).
  • Pickup & Drop Mechanic – Players can now pick up and drop objects.
  • Bug Fixes – Multiple bugs were fixed.

This makes so that we have our first and final playable prototype, next week is production, so we'll make this project come to life.


Research 

This week the artists focussed mostly on finishing up all the documents :

Technical Document

Here we made sure everything was clear technicality wise, we had to make sure everyone knows what to name their files, where to put their files, how to export etc... 
We cleaned up this document and made it ready to go.\


Art Document

Here we made sure all the info the artists needed could be found, so that when production starts, the artist pipeline / workflow could be smooth sailing. This week it was also mostly polish, and a few slides added.


HacknPlan Game Design Document

This week we also made the Game Design Document, we noted down all our game mechanics in a massive document, containing all information needed about the game, and we made tasks for each part. Now when production starts we all have a list of tasks we have to get through.
