Week 3 - Devlog
Welcome back to our devlog on BeachBlast, our game jam game for Howest DAE, let's quickly get in to what we did this week :
Week 3 - Prototyping and Research
Before getting started this week we had an important descision to make, Unity or Unreal Engine. After some prototyping last week we realised unity might be the better option for our game, This week was all about learning Unity, prototyping and research, let's start with the latter.
ART RESEARCH
We continued on the artbible, researching more in depth what we want our style to be like, and what vibe we want our game to give.
Chosen mood :
During style exploration this was the style that stuck with us the most, A crash bandicoot style beach. So this was our chosen mood. With this we could further explore our colors.
Another important thing we layed the groundworks for were the scale. This is a very important element in every part of the project and we needed to decide on a scale ASAP, this is why we make a line-up.

This had our artbible off to a good start. The coming weeks we will keep expanding it, this way we can ensure we have a good base to work from once production starts.
Art Prototyping
Apart from research, this week our artists did a lot of prototyping to get more clarity about the shading, color, scale, and other stuff we needed to figure out before production, we played around with particles, level blockouts, character sketches etc...
Development
This week our developers prototyped in Unity, we managed to make a working cannon prototype that will play a big part in our game. We also figured out how to add multiple controllers into a game, so our game would be playable with multiple players. And finally interactable objects are now also supported so the player can shoot the cannon themself!
